About Wake Forest University

Wake Forest University is a private research college circles in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Founded in 1834, the academic world received its post from its native location in Wake Forest, north of Raleigh, North Carolina. The Reynolda Campus, the university’s main campus, has been located north of downtown Winston-Salem back the university moved there in 1956. The Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center campus has two locations, the older one located close the Ardmore neighborhood in central Winston-Salem, and the newer campus at Wake Forest Innovation Quarter downtown. The university also occupies lab vent at Biotech Plaza at Innovation Quarter, and at the Center for Nanotechnology and Molecular Materials. The university’s Graduate School of Management maintains a presence on the main campus in Winston-Salem and in Charlotte, North Carolina.

WFU’s undergraduate and graduate colleges & schools enhance Wake Forest University School of Law, Wake Forest University School of Divinity, Wake Forest University School of Business, Wake Forest Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Wake Forest students can participate in over 250 student clubs and organizations including fraternities and sororities, intramural sports, a student newspaper and a radio station. For 2021, Wake Forest is ranked as tied for the 28th best national college circles in the United States by U.S. News & World Report. Wake Forest is designated “R-2: Doctoral Universities – High Research Activity” with the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education in 2019 update.

Wake Forest University Athletic teams are known as the Demon Deacons and compete in 16 NCAA Division I intercollegiate sports. Wake Forest is next a founding advocate of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).

Winston-Salem is a city in and the county seat of Forsyth County, North Carolina, United States. With a 2019 estimated population of 247,945 it is the second largest municipality in the Piedmont Triad region, the fifth most populous city in North Carolina, the third largest urban area in North Carolina, and the eighty-ninth most populous city in the United States. With a metropolitan population of 680,876 it is the fourth largest metropolitan area in North Carolina. Winston-Salem is home to the tallest office building in the region, 100 North Main Street, formerly known as the Wachovia Building and now known locally as the Wells Fargo Center.

Winston-Salem is called the “Twin City” for its dual heritage. “Camel City” is a mention to the city’s historic involvement in the tobacco industry related to locally based R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company’s Camel cigarettes. Many locals refer to the city as “Winston” in informal speech. Winston-Salem is also house to many colleges and institutions, most notably Wake Forest University and Winston-Salem State University.

In 2012, the city was listed among the ten best places to retire in the United States by CBS MoneyWatch. Winston-Salem has seen a surge in lump and revitalization in the downtown Place with hotels, restaurants, and apartments below construction.
