About Central Washington University

Central Washington University (CWU) is a public university circles in Ellensburg, Washington. Founded in 1891, the academe consists of four divisions: the President’s Division, Business and Financial Affairs, Operations, and Academic and Student Life (ASL). Within ASL are four colleges: the College of Arts and Humanities, the College of Business (Ellensburg campus and University Centers in the Puget Sound and central regions), the College of Education and Professional Studies, and College of the Sciences. CWU is considered an emerging Hispanic-Serving Institution behind 15 percent Hispanic students.

Ellensburg is a city in and the county chair of Kittitas County, Washington, United States. It is located just east of the Cascade Range at the junction of Interstate 90 and Interstate 82. The population was an estimated 21,111 as of 2019.

The city is located along the Yakima River in the Kittitas Valley, an agricultural region that extends east towards the Columbia River. The valley is a major producer of timothy hay, which is processed and shipped internationally. Ellensburg is along with the house of Central Washington University (CWU).

Ellensburg, originally named Ellensburgh for the wife of town founder John Alden Shoudy, was founded in 1871 and grew hastily in the 1880s subsequent to the beginning of the Northern Pacific Railway. The city was in the flavor of a leading candidate to become the allow in capital of Washington, but its stir up was scuppered by a major flare in 1889.
