Western Illinois University (WIU) is a public university circles in Macomb, Illinois. It was founded in 1899 as Western Illinois State Normal School. As the usual school grew, it became Western Illinois State Teachers College.

Macomb /məˈkoʊm/ is a city in and the county chair of McDonough County, Illinois, United States. It is situated in western Illinois, southwest of Galesburg. The city is practically 75 miles (121 km) southwest of Peoria and 77 miles (124 km) south of the Quad Cities. The population at the 2010 census was 19,288. Macomb is the house of Western Illinois University.
