About West Virginia Northern Community College

West Virginia Northern Community College (WVNCC) is a public, multi-campus community scholastic with its main campus in downtown Wheeling, West Virginia. The main campus is housed in the former Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Terminal at Wheeling.

Established in 1972, WVNCC serves all six counties in West Virginia’s Northern Panhandle. In complement to the main campus, WVNCC has branches in Weirton, West Virginia and in New Martinsville, West Virginia.

Wheeling is a city in Ohio and Marshall counties in the U.S. state of West Virginia. Located roughly entirely in Ohio County, of which it is the county seat, it lies along the Ohio River in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Wheeling was originally a treaty in the British colony of Virginia, and sophisticated the second largest city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Wheeling was where instigation of West Virginia was planned, and it was the first capital of the extra state. Due to its location along major transportation routes, including the Ohio River, National Road, and the B&O Railroad, Wheeling became a manufacturing center in the late nineteenth century. After experiencing the closing of factories and substantial population loss like World War II, Wheeling’s major industries now put in healthcare, education, law and authentic services, entertainment and tourism, and energy.

Wheeling is the principal city of the Wheeling, WV-OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the MSA had a population of 147,950, and the city itself had a population of 28,486.

From the greeting of the other state of West Virginia into the union upon June 20, 1863, until the Restored Government of Virginia’s upset to Alexandria in August of the same year, Wheeling was the state capital of both West Virginia and Virginia.
