About Southwestern University

Southwestern University (Southwestern or SU) is a private college circles in Georgetown, Texas. Formed in 1873 from a revival of collegiate charters established in 1840, Southwestern is the oldest university circles in Texas. Southwestern offers 40 bachelor’s degrees in the arts, sciences, fine arts, and music as capably as interdisciplinary and pre-professional programs. The college circles is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the National Association of Schools of Music. It is historically affiliated in the same way as the United Methodist Church.

The academic circles is a devotee of the Annapolis Group, the Associated Colleges of the South, the Council of Independent Colleges, and is a signatory of the Talloires Declaration.

Georgetown is a city in and the county chair of Williamson County, Texas, United States, with a population of 47,400 at the 2010 census and a population of 79,604 at the 2019 census estimate. Georgetown is the 7th fastest growing city in the US as of May 14, 2019. It is 30 miles (48 km) north of Austin.

Founded in 1875 from four existing colleges, the oldest of which had been founded 35 years earlier, Southwestern University is the oldest academic world in Texas. It is in Georgetown nearly one-half mile from the historic square.

Georgetown has a notable range of Victorian personal ad and residential architecture. In 1976, a local historic ordinance was passed to admit and guard the significance of the historic central issue district. In 1977, the Williamson County Courthouse Historical District, containing some 46 contributing structures, was listed upon the National Register of Historic Places. Georgetown is pseudonym the “Red Poppy” Capital of Texas for the red poppy (Papaver rhoeas) wildflowers planted throughout the city. Georgetown’s Red Poppy Festival, which attracts taking place to 30,000 visitors annually,[citation needed] is held in April each year upon the historic square.
