About Sacred Heart University

Sacred Heart University (SHU) is a private, Catholic academe in Fairfield, Connecticut. Sacred Heart was founded in 1963 by the Most Reverend Walter W. Curtis, Bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Sacred Heart was the first Catholic academe in the United States to be staffed by the laity.

Sacred Heart is the second-largest Catholic university circles in New England, behind Boston College, and offers more than 80 degree programs to more than 8,500 students at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels.

Undergraduate students investigation at Sacred Heart’s international campuses in Dingle, Ireland and Luxembourg, including freshmen participating in pre-fall and Freshman drop Abroad programs. On the main campus, academic facilities increase the Frank and Marisa Martire Business & Communications Center and the Center for Healthcare Education. The academic world received national attention for the tart death of a student in 2017 during a university circles sponsored pancake eating contest.

Fairfield is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. It borders the city of Bridgeport and towns of Trumbull, Easton, Weston, and Westport along the Gold Coast of Connecticut. As of the 2010 census, the town had a population of 59,404. In September 2014, Money magazine ranked Fairfield the 44th best place to stir in the United States and the best place to bring to life in Connecticut.
