About Principia College

Principia College (Principia or Prin) is a private unbiased arts scholarly in Elsah, Illinois. It was founded in 1912 by Mary Kimball Morgan later the direct of “serving the Cause of Christian Science.” It has no affiliation once the Church of Christ, Scientist, but according to the college “the practice of Christian Science is the cornerstone of campus life.” Students and staff are time-honored to be dynamic Christian Scientists.

Principia sits on bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River amid Alton and Grafton in the Metro East region of Southern Illinois, thirty miles north of St. Louis. A part of the school’s 2,500-acre (1,000 ha) campus is a designated National Historic Landmark District, for its many buildings and design by architect Bernard Maybeck.

Elsah is a village in Jersey County, Illinois. As of the 2010 U.S. census, the village had a sum population of 673. As of 2018, the population has grown to an estimated 704. Cyrus Bunting is the village’s current acting mayor.

It is the home of Principia College.

Elsah is a share of the Metro-East region and the St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area.
