About Our Lady of the Lake University

Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU), known locally as the Lake, is a Catholic academe in San Antonio, Texas. It was founded in 1895 by the Sisters of Divine Providence, a religious institute originating in Lorraine, France, during the 18th century. The Texas chapter of the institute yet sponsors the university. Our Lady of the Lake University was the first San Antonio institution of well ahead education to receive regional accreditation and its Worden School of Social Service is the oldest Social Work educational in Texas.

San Antonio (/ˌsæn ænˈtoʊnioʊ/; Spanish for “Saint Anthony”), officially the City of San Antonio, is the seventh-most populous city in the United States, and the second-most populous city in both Texas and the Southern United States, with 1,547,253 residents in 2019. Founded as a Spanish mission and colonial outpost in 1718, the city became the first chartered civil agreement in present-day Texas in 1731. The Place was yet part of the Spanish Empire, and well ahead of the Mexican Republic. It is the state’s oldest municipality, having commended its 300th anniversary on May 1, 2018.

The city’s deep history is contrasted behind its curt growth on height of the gone few decades. The city of San Antonio serves as the chair of Bexar County; San Antonio is the middle of the San Antonio–New Braunfels metropolitan statistical area. Commonly called Greater San Antonio, the metropolitan Place had a population of 2,550,960 based upon the 2019 U.S. census estimates, making it the 24th-largest metropolitan Place in the United States and third-largest in Texas.

San Antonio was named by a 1691 Spanish expedition for the Portuguese priest Saint Anthony of Padua, whose feast morning is June 13. The city contains five 18th-century Spanish frontier missions, including The Alamo and San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, which together were designated UNESCO World Heritage sites in 2015. Other notable attractions add up the River Walk, the Tower of the Americas, SeaWorld, the Alamo Bowl, and Marriage Island. Commercial entertainment includes Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Morgan’s Wonderland amusement parks. According to the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau, the city is visited by very nearly 32 million tourists a year. It is house to the five-time NBA champion San Antonio Spurs, and hosts the annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, one of the largest such events in the U.S.

The U.S. Armed Forces have numerous facilities in and approximately San Antonio; Fort Sam Houston is the lonely one within the city limits. Lackland Air Force Base, Randolph Air Force Base, Kelly Air Force Base, Camp Bullis, and Camp Stanley are uncovered the city limits. Kelly Air Force Base operated out of San Antonio until 2001, when the airfield was transferred to Lackland AFB. The remaining parts of the base were developed as Port San Antonio, an industrial/business park and aerospace complex. San Antonio is home to four Fortune 500 companies and the South Texas Medical Center, the deserted medical research and care provider in the South Texas region.
