Hobart and William Smith Colleges are private modern arts colleges in Geneva, New York. They relish their origins to Geneva Academy customary in 1797. The colleges provide the degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and Master of Arts in teaching.
The colleges were originally separate institutions – Hobart College for men and William Smith College for women – that shared near bonds and a contiguous campus. In 1943, William Smith College was elevated from its indigenous status as a department of Hobart College to an independent literary and the two colleges time-honored a joint corporate identity. They are officially chartered as “Hobart and William Smith Colleges” and informally referred to as “HWS” or “the Colleges.” Although allied in one corporation once many shared resources and overlapping organization, they have each retained their own traditions.
