California Polytechnic State University (California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, or Cal Poly[Note 1]) is a public academic world in San Luis Obispo, California. It is one of two polytechnics in the California State University system.
The the academy is organized into six colleges offering 65 bachelor’s and 39 master’s degrees. Cal Poly San Luis Obispo primarily focuses on undergraduate education and as of fall 2020 Cal Poly had 21,447 undergraduate and 840 graduate students. The academic focus is upon combining highbrow and professional curriculums taking into account the arts and humanities. The university’s supple teams participate in the enormous West Conference.

San Luis Obispo (/sæn ˌluːɪs əˈbɪspoʊ/, Spanish: [san ˈlwis oˈβispo]; SLO /sloʊ/ for short) is a city in the U.S. state of California and county seat of San Luis Obispo County, approximately 190 miles (310 km) north of Los Angeles and 230 miles (370 km) south of San Francisco. Located in Southern California’s Central Coast region, the population of the city was 45,119 at the 2010 census. The population of the county was 269,637 in 2010.
Founded in 1772 by Spanish Franciscan Junípero Serra, San Luis Obispo is one of California’s oldest European-founded communities. Serra’s native mission was named after the 13th-century saint and bishop Louis of Toulouse. The city, locally referred to as San Luis, SLO, or SLO Town (as its county is with referred to as SLO) is the county chair of San Luis Obispo County and is adjacent to California Polytechnic State University.
