California Lutheran University (CLU, Cal Lutheran, or Cal Lu) is a private unbiased arts the academy in Thousand Oaks, California. It was founded in 1959 and is affiliated past the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, but is nonsectarian. It opened in 1960 as California Lutheran College and was California’s first four-year broadminded arts hypothetical and the first four-year private assistant professor in Ventura County. Cal Lutheran has been called the West Coast’s “Cradle of Coaches”; nearly 1 in 4 of football coach Bob Shoup’s players would go upon to coach at some level. 144 players have become football coaches, and several have been drafted to the NFL. The city forms the central populated core of the Conejo Valley. Thousand Oaks was incorporated in 1964, but has previously expanded to the west and east. Two-thirds of adjoining Westlake Village and most of Newbury Park were annexed by the city during the late 1960s and 1970s. The Los Angeles County–Ventura County descent crosses at the city’s eastern affix with Westlake Village. The population was estimated to be 126,813 in 2019, up from 126,683 at the 2010 census.
